Sit & Sketch @ Havencroft
Sometimes it’s good to sit still long enough to really notice what’s around you.
Join us for a quiet Sunday at Havencroft Animal Sanctuary. Bring a sketchbook, a pencil or pen, and whatever other supplies you like to draw with, then find a comfortable place to settle in. Sketch an animal, an old tree, the barn, the changing leaves, the edge of the swamp, or whatever happens to catch your attention.
This isn’t an art class, and you don’t need to be an artist. There are no lessons, assignments, critiques, or expectations about what you make. Draw for ten minutes or fill several pages. Make something careful and detailed, scribble impressions in the margins, or spend most of your time looking and very little of it drawing. The point is simply to slow down, look closely, and spend a little time outside.
Drop in anytime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. We’ll have places available in both the sun and the shade, and you’re welcome to move around and find the spot that feels right. Lemonade and water will be available while you’re here.
A few things to know:
• Bring your own drawing supplies. A sketchbook and pencil or pen are plenty, but you’re welcome to bring whatever supplies you prefer.
• Make yourself comfortable. Bring a chair if you’d like to sit, or a blanket if you’d rather stretch out on the ground.
• Dress for an October day outdoors. Bug spray is recommended, and if the sun is out, you may want sunscreen as well. Layers are always a good idea.
• Families are welcome. Children must remain with their parent or guardian at all times while on the property.
• Please leave dogs at home. For the safety and comfort of our sanctuary residents, we can’t welcome visiting dogs onto the property.
• Lemonade and water are provided. Bring a reusable cup or water bottle if you’d like.
• A $5 donation is suggested, but never required. Donations help us care for the animals who call Havencroft home, but we want everyone who would enjoy a quiet afternoon here to feel welcome.
There is no right way to spend the afternoon and nothing you need to finish before you leave. Find a patch of grass, open your sketchbook, and see what you notice when you give yourself a little time to look.
